  1. My experience as an American expat moving/living/working in Greece motivated me to buy this book in hopes of learning something new or at least confirming what is real and true. That was not the case for me.

While Mr. Reynolds obviously knows Greece and some details from experience and knowledge of the language, the majority of the information given is aimed primarily and specifically toward people from the UK. So, if you are from the UK, this book may be for you. I say 'may be' because a lot of topics are missing. There are also no website addresses.

If you're not from the UK, this book still offers a brief overview that those with no knowledge of Greece may find useful, but when tackling employment and visa/work permit issues, it will offer you nothing. And unfortunately, since this half of the title refers to working, it doesn't fulfill its promise if you are from somewhere other than the UK.

This book is also written from a man's point of view and experiences, and life and work for a woman in Greece is slightly different. I don't like to be critical because I realize it's difficult to write a book, however I know many will be disappointed if purchasing this book as a resource to navigating Greece.

  1. An excellent overview of most ancient and some major medieval sites within a day's travel of Athens, written with unquestioned scholarly competence but clearly enough to be accessible to the nonspecialist. The one thing I missed was a comprehensive map showing all the sites instead of just the major ones, which would make planning a trip easier. Includes an extremely useful guide to the National Museum in Athens. Unfortunately, the publishers have chosen to issue this book at a price which ensures that 99% of the travelers who could benefit from it aren't going to buy it.
