1. This guide follows the vein of most Rough Guides, in that the information that the DO provide tends to be very in-depth (more though than other guides), however the scope of information tends to be somewhat lacking compared to others.

   The maps are not as good nor plentiful as other guides, however on the positive side the anecdotal nature of their reviews of locations, restaurants etc are very insightful.

   I'd suggest combining this book with another, and you'd be making the most of things by making the second book a Lonely Planet (say, Greece or Greek Islands) or the Greek Island Hopping 2000 from Thomas Cook.

1. I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter who loves geography and facts. She loved this book, along with the other books like it, Japan for example. It gives a lot of detail about the country.

1. This a curious book. One can like it or hate it but no one can say this is not an original book. It is written from a tender and cozy place called human warmth. For that heroic stance it should be applauded. The book lives in the moment -without a conclusion, or anything resembling a plot (the book often travels in circles). The author manages to get close to those who were dear and close to Leonard Cohen but he does not take advantage of this remarkable oppurtunity. He has Suzanne (the mother of Adam and Lorca but not the Suzanne of the song) sitting in front of him and he resorts to mundane and ponitless questions and gossips.
   I remember my two trips of discovery to Hydra in search of Leonard Cohen. I found his house and his old buddies -but I did not see the bananas of Leonard Cohen! Maybe they were there but I was looking down for his footsteps not up for the tropical fruits! I recommend this book to all the Cohen fans -even though I am sure Leonard Cohen is thoroughly embaressed by it.

Covering history, culture, folklore, and tourism, it offers you a lot to prepare yourself for your visit. The heart of the book is formed by the detailed description of six tours covering various parts of the island. In all, as the writer puts it, 'a true companion' when leaving for the Ionian paradise.

1. Michael of Greece has done a wonderful job of collecting photographs of some of St. Petersburg's most beautiful palaces. However, without the background of an Art or Architectural historian, the text is sorely lacking, and is, in fact riddled with errors and omissions. By the way, Your Highness, the last Palace in your book was built for the Belosselsky-Belozersky family -- for some reason you've chosen to call them the Beloseilsky-Belosievskys. Wrong.
