- If you have an extended budget, like to drive (especially on the fast German autobahns), and want to explore the culture and history of Germany this may be a good choice for you.
This travel book is different than the rest in that it presents several travel (rather driving) itineraries to experience differnt parts of the country. It is well priced, with lots of good tourist information on all the major towns covered on the selected beautiful routes and also loding information (not for the travelers on a shoe-string budget).
- Have traveled often with Brown. Usually with her B&B books. This book includes hotels as well as B&Bs. Seems pretty good. Not as good as Italy, however.
- For many years I have been a fan of Karen Brown's guides. I teach a course on independent travel in Europe and use her guides as a text. If you are thinking about getting off the tour bus and want to travel on your own in Europe then Karen Brown's publications are your entry point.
Fair warning once you start touring on your own it becomes an addiction.
Personally I have been "hooked" on going to Europe on your own for over 23 years. Karen Brown got us started.
- Great book - used it for 4 trips - never let me down. Going to order her Switzerland book next.

2 comments about Living & Working in Germany: A Survival Handbook (Living and Working).
- I have read several books on moving/living in Germany. Of those books, this one is the most comprehensive. It focuses on the nuts-and-bolts of the overseas move, including the various government agencies one must deal with, housing issues, utilities, and more. It's fairly upbeat but at the same time appears to provide a balanced view on the good and bad. Combined with "The Expert Expatriate," this book seems to cover all of the bases.
- Went to germany and this book in 100% on the .....
Trust me on this. If your thinking about moving to germany then you will NEED this book

- My husband & I are planning a trip to Germany. After reading "Those Crazy Germans," I have a keen insight into the German culture and will have a more appreciative trip. Our itinery is now more specific to enjoy the people besides just the highlights. It's an easy read with plenty of suggestions. It's a must buy before you go there.

- This book was a great read. Growing up in a family of German Hertiage and visiting Germany I can say this book hits the nail on the head. It is a fun, and light hearted read, that gives great insite to Modern Germany. From the description of the crosswalks and rules in Germany (I have also been corrected in Munich for not waiting til the light said it was ok to cross) to the Bier, customs and quirks. The book is a great travel companion to any person planning to visit Germany for the first time or the tenth time. I would highly recommend this book to everyone, even those who may never even visit the Vaterland (though everyone should at least once!).
- This book is a lighthearted delightful read. Not only did I enjoy but while visiting Germany I passed it around to my German colleagues and they loved it for its descriptive accuracy of customs and differences region by region. If going to Germany or if you enjoy German culture you will find the book amusingly accurate fun book that is also a useful travel companion.
- This book is a must read for those interested in travelling to Germany or those who want a better grasp on German culture.
I am the daughter of two German immigrants and married to a German man- this book really hit home. I found everything factually accurate. The author is well versed on the subject and his love for German culture shines through.
I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of this wonderful and diverse country and its people.
