1. "Fodor's Exploring Florida" is a rich and colorful guide to the Sunshine State.

   Whether it's urban Pensacola or historic Fort Jefferson (the largest coastal fortress in the United States and located 60 miles west of Key West), this sleek and holdable volume unveils the beauty and uniqueness of Florida in ways few guides can match.

   Though hotel and restaurant suggestions aren't given in-depth, the selections are generally good. Ditto excursions, itineraries, and shopping recommendations.

   But fine maps and photographs abound. Especially well-captured are the dramatic sunset at Mallory Square Pier, in Key West; Bahia State Recreation Area; and Bonita Beach, a serene developement along the southwest Gulf Shore.

   There's also great art and architectual information!




2. When we were touring Florida, this was a fantastic guide. It discusses all Florida's regions, and the major sights.
   
   There are, of course, the obvious attractions--Disney World and the Kennedy Space Center. But readers searching for wild spots will also find luscious details about the Everglades and the glorious Keys, where this book pointed us to off-the-track favorites like the Bahia Honda State beach and Crane Point Hammock and the National Key Deer Refuge.
   
   There's a great section on the state's early geological and pre-American histories, too, including maps, photos and descriptions of the early explorers, pirates and native Americans.
   
   Not everything about Florida can be provided in a 288 page book, but Fodor's has done a good job with this one.

1. This map does not cover the areas around Disney World, Sea World, or Discovery Cove.
   Useless for my vacation. "Easy Finders" by Rand McNally are good maps, but this one did not meet my expectations.



2. This review is to counter the preceding one, which is blatantly unfair. This map is advertised as a street map of Orlando, and it does that job just fine. It does include the streets around the parks, but if the previous reviewer wanted a tourist map that included more details of the parks, that's what he should have bought! This map is for residents, not tourists.
