  1. This book is a must-read for anyone (with OR WITHOUT KIDS) who is going to visit Disney World. It has information on everything! From tips on drinking water inside the park (a must to know if you have ever been to Disney Land!), to the ins and outs of hotels to choose from (both on and off site), to restaurant details, to what each ride is like along with height and weight requirements for each. You are able to get all kinds of information in order to plan your up coming visit and make informed decisions accordingly! We were able to loosely plan our vacation so that we weren't wasting precious time while in the park, trying to figure out what attractions to see and where to eat. WELL WORTH the money and the time to read this book. I plan on buying an updated copy everytime we get to go back to Disney World so I can keep informed and up-to-date on everything!

  2. This is a great book to plan for a disney vacation with little kids. We have used two editions now, and take it with us to leave in the stroller for reference. Even though we are veteran Disney travelers as adults, this really helped plan for our preschoolers.

  3. Must have for families headed to Disney. This book helped us decide what to focus on with the kids and not do too much. We took a five yr old and almost two year old and they did not have any break downs! We just had a great time.

  4. We went to Disney in a large group, and our family was by far the most well-informed and organized! Based on the books clear recommendations for age-appropriate RIDES and DINING we planned each day and even recommended to our other fellow travelers what they might enjoy with their kids. It was great because we were able to maximize our time on rides instead of just wandering around! How SMART we felt when we followed some of the tips from the books and saved ourselves lots of headaches. We looked like pros to the others in our group, and they thanked us for being so organized. We photocopied a few of the key pages to take to the parks with us so we could refer back to phone # and recommendations for restaurants, etc. This book is easy to read, well planned out, and thorough. I gave my copy to a friend in Mexico and she said she doesn't know how they would have made it through their vacation without it!

  5. It's impossible to use all the info in this book unless you plan out the trip well ahead of time and take notes as you read this book. That said it is an awesome resource for getting the most out of your vacation.

  1. I bought this map for a trip to Ft. Lauderdale this coming February. After reviewing the map I discovered that the maps ends just south of the airport. I guessing it ends just a few streets before my the street my hotel is on. Just wondering if there are other things like this missing from the map. Not a bad map otherwise.

  1. Dr. Nancy Stockdale provides at times a chilling, but always informative, retelling of how English missionary women assisted in the British imperial project in mandate Palestine. Caught in between the dominant patriarchal middle-class at home and the perceived inferior, exotic female creatures of the Orient supposedly begging for sex emancipation and public incorporation, British missionaries exposed Palestinian girls and women to a particular brand of English Protestantism and female domesticity in order to Anglicize the region from inside the minds of these colonial subjects. Dr. Stockdale brings to the fore these missionaries' religious fantasies and bourgeois aesthetics as imperialist tools, basing her analysis on the theoretical underpinnings of Edward Said's Orientalism, as well as notable feminist studies by Leila Ahmad and Fatima Mernissi. These colonial encounters led in some cases to traumatic confrontations, both within Protestant organizations and between missionaries and their colonial subjects. Dr. Stockdale provides expansive examples from these missionaries own perspectives on the region and its people, juxtaposed with interviews from women who grew up within these imperialist structures and constructs. Special treatment is given to particular, dramatic recounting of maltreated Palestinian orphan girls and their despair. Overall, Stockdale gives a clearly composed and well thought out analysis of a dark chapter in British colonial history in the Middle East.

  1. First, this book is chocked full of Bruce Roberts' beautiful photographs of the lighthouses in this region. The photographs are nothing less than SPECTACULAR! Combined with the revised and updated information on each makes this regional lighthouse guide a requirement you won't want to be without whether you're visiting the region or a life-long resident. The text contains full, rich descriptions of each lighthouse, too.

I have many lighthouse books and all of Bruce Roberts' and Ray Jones' regional guides. I've read them all and used most of them while traveling. I've found them to be first rate, an excellent choice for people who want everything lighthouse between two covers. A joy to look at and informative to read.

  3. I think this may be my favorite of all the books on Southern lighthouses that I have seen. Beautiful photography. Substantial factual information. Our paperback copy is falling apart in our library, I need a hardback copy and it appears they aren't available or are they?

  1. This book needs some help. I am a big Family Fun Fan, and take the mag. and have all their books and was so excited to find that they had finally put a travel book together.
I loved the begining part about ways to travel with kids, all their tips and side notes. I liked that I could find kid friendly hotels and resturaunts.
But I was so dissapointed that alot of the states that I would be traveling in the book only talked about a few areas in that state. California should of had been one book and talked about northern and southern Calif., not just a few citties.
Family Fun has always had out of the way and unusal places to travel in their mag. why didn't they do this for their travel book.
If you are looking to see places all over the southwest in this book, you might be dissapointed like me.

  2. I loved the book (we got the southeast one). It covers all of the southeast, not just FL and the big mouse! We live in GA so this book is awesome for us as we are central to all of the states it covers. If you are only buying one book, this should be it!! It rates must do's, costs, ages and also includes hotels and local eateries which most travel guides don't. I was very impressed. The above reviewer is reviewing the CA book so don't ket her review persuade you not to buy. You will not be disapointed!

  3. Not only can you use this for the whole family but also with friends. If you enjoyed this, you might also enjoy, "World Ventures, Dan Stammen".

  4. This book is not helpful. It does not provide enough information about anything other than Disney World. We did not even take it on our trip.

  5. I purchased this book for a major family road trip vacation that our family took through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. Besides the book that I purchased that was for California specifically this book was another invaluable item for our vacation of a lifetime. Not only was it a wealth of information on tips for making the car ride more enjoyable, but also helped us to be uber prepared for anything that might come up, including food issues and expenses, entertaining the kids, where the populated areas are for gas stations, motels and campgrounds, and must-see attractions. And we were assured that we would not miss something by driving right by it and not knowing it was there or worth seeing. This book is loaded with the "must-see" things we didn't want to miss. And their ratings for things were right on. We were armed and dangerous with our information of what everything was going to cost, how we were going to plan our route to see the things we wanted to see, how much time things would take, and what places are crowded with tourists so when the best time is to visit - how to plan our day, where to stay, where to eat, etc.

The best thing about this and the other Family Fun California vacation guide that I purchased is that my husband and kids now have memories that they will treasure for a lifetime, thanks to the tips and ratings and ideas in these books. We did it all, saw it all, and didn't waste a moment's time on so-so attractions that cost a lot an didn't offer that much entertainment value.

If you are planning a trip to the SOUTHWEST, you have to get this book. Mine is still earmarked with sticky notes and serves as an anthology of our trip, packed right next to the photo album and all of our personal vacation journals.

Go west young man! And take this book with ya!
