  1. This book is a must-read for anyone (with OR WITHOUT KIDS) who is going to visit Disney World. It has information on everything! From tips on drinking water inside the park (a must to know if you have ever been to Disney Land!), to the ins and outs of hotels to choose from (both on and off site), to restaurant details, to what each ride is like along with height and weight requirements for each. You are able to get all kinds of information in order to plan your up coming visit and make informed decisions accordingly! We were able to loosely plan our vacation so that we weren't wasting precious time while in the park, trying to figure out what attractions to see and where to eat. WELL WORTH the money and the time to read this book. I plan on buying an updated copy everytime we get to go back to Disney World so I can keep informed and up-to-date on everything!

  2. This is a great book to plan for a disney vacation with little kids. We have used two editions now, and take it with us to leave in the stroller for reference. Even though we are veteran Disney travelers as adults, this really helped plan for our preschoolers.

  3. Must have for families headed to Disney. This book helped us decide what to focus on with the kids and not do too much. We took a five yr old and almost two year old and they did not have any break downs! We just had a great time.

  4. We went to Disney in a large group, and our family was by far the most well-informed and organized! Based on the books clear recommendations for age-appropriate RIDES and DINING we planned each day and even recommended to our other fellow travelers what they might enjoy with their kids. It was great because we were able to maximize our time on rides instead of just wandering around! How SMART we felt when we followed some of the tips from the books and saved ourselves lots of headaches. We looked like pros to the others in our group, and they thanked us for being so organized. We photocopied a few of the key pages to take to the parks with us so we could refer back to phone # and recommendations for restaurants, etc. This book is easy to read, well planned out, and thorough. I gave my copy to a friend in Mexico and she said she doesn't know how they would have made it through their vacation without it!

  5. It's impossible to use all the info in this book unless you plan out the trip well ahead of time and take notes as you read this book. That said it is an awesome resource for getting the most out of your vacation.

  1. Dr. Nancy Stockdale provides at times a chilling, but always informative, retelling of how English missionary women assisted in the British imperial project in mandate Palestine. Caught in between the dominant patriarchal middle-class at home and the perceived inferior, exotic female creatures of the Orient supposedly begging for sex emancipation and public incorporation, British missionaries exposed Palestinian girls and women to a particular brand of English Protestantism and female domesticity in order to Anglicize the region from inside the minds of these colonial subjects. Dr. Stockdale brings to the fore these missionaries' religious fantasies and bourgeois aesthetics as imperialist tools, basing her analysis on the theoretical underpinnings of Edward Said's Orientalism, as well as notable feminist studies by Leila Ahmad and Fatima Mernissi. These colonial encounters led in some cases to traumatic confrontations, both within Protestant organizations and between missionaries and their colonial subjects. Dr. Stockdale provides expansive examples from these missionaries own perspectives on the region and its people, juxtaposed with interviews from women who grew up within these imperialist structures and constructs. Special treatment is given to particular, dramatic recounting of maltreated Palestinian orphan girls and their despair. Overall, Stockdale gives a clearly composed and well thought out analysis of a dark chapter in British colonial history in the Middle East.

  1. I have a plan to travel Orlando this winter, and decided to buy a book about Orlando.

There were so many books about Orlando. Some gave very detailed information, but they were very thick and heavy.

The most important information you need for Orlando is which ride to visit, which parades to see, when to visit where, how to order all the attractions.

This book gives all these information about Orlando and light enough to carry during the trip.

  2. The 2005 edition adds another 50 pages of info over the previous edition. Hotels, restaurants and admission prices can change rapidly in the area, so it's worthwhile to have the most recent guidebook.
I live in the area and count on the Fodor's to give the detail essential to a successful excursion with our visitors. There is soooo much to see at Disney and around the area that you will miss a lot if you don't have a good guidebook like this. I like the "Strategies" highlights that give the best times to visit certain attractions and the "Need a Break" inserts that clue you into quick, but satisfying snack places.
They also mark in the margin "Fodor's Choice" to help you find some of the best activities.

  1. If you thought travel guides were written by chamber of commerce clones or paid hirelings of the booster flacks, then this book will make you rethink that stereotype. It's funny, raw, irreverent, honest, literate, in fact, it reads like something written by the heirs to the travel writing tradition of Jacks London and Kerouac. This is no b.s.

  2. Florida Beaches was a most necessary travel companion during a recent trip down the Florida coast. Authors Puterbaugh and Bisbort possess an insight and humor not found in the typical travel book.

  3. Hard to believe these two guys spent so much time in Florida without discovering what a sandspur really is. (They refer to "sandspur lots" as lots with sand and spurs. The sandspur is a common weed, well-documented in Florida.) But this doesn't seem to be the book's only shortcoming. Evidently the authors' idea of a good beach is a spring-break spot, fresh with wet T-shirts and tequila shooters. That's okay for some, but there are Floridians who find other things about the beach compelling.

  4. With over 400 beaches, Florida is Mecca for those with a need for sun and sand. This 681 page guide is a godsend to those that live for the bronzed body, fun, and zany people that these beaches offer.

This guide is the most accurate, comprehensive guide on Florida beaches to date. The authors have spent over 17 years in compiling this great guide. The comments and selections are theirs alone. The guide is full of facts (Florida is a 447 mile peninsula), stats (Florida grew in habitats by 23% in one decade) and hard information (the main reason to buy the guide). Puterbaugh and Bisbort, as the writing will evidence, are conservationists, strongly lauding eco-tourism. Kudos.

Though the nightlife sections in this guide are far the best available, the accommodations and costal cuisine sections are paltry and poor; nowhere near the strength of better state guides. Puterbaugh and Bisbort selected the 25 "Top" beaches among the 400 beaches in Florida, but sadly omitted a map showing where these 25 beaches are located. Thus you do the work via the index.

I used this guide while traveling for a month through Florida. `Florida Beaches' could be a stand alone guide, but I recommend that you use it in concert with an excellent state guide, such as Frommer's Florida (see my review). Together, these guides will direct you to the best Florida has to offer. 4.5 Stars. Strongly Recommended.
