  1. Mr. Bansemer's drawings of the southern shores of the US and the activities that take place there are unsurpasssed. In addition to paintings, each is described in prose that sometimes makes you want to cry and sometimes makes you want to laugh. An excellent coffee table book to browse through again and again.

  1. I love Florida.I love this book! I found this book from a reference in Jimmy Buffett's song FLORIDAYS. He writes with passion and lighthearted fun at the same time.Direct from the tropic of soul.

Don Blanding expresses his innermost feelings about his tropical home in Florida. It is probably one of my all time favorite books now. I have a similiar passion for FLorida and all of its tropical wonders. It touched my soul and my tropical heart. If you feel the same- you will love Floridays!

  2. A beautiful yet harsh look into the nature of Florida! The area he writes about, I have seen and it is still the same today as it was 70 years ago! If you want more of a personal inside into the author, try reading,"Whistled like a Bird" by Sally Chapman, you'll see a chapter including, Don Blanding and the area he so richly describes! It maybe be difficult finding a copy, but the local bookstores should have some on the shelves!

  3. Don Blanding wrote this book while married to socialite Dorothy Binney Putnam and living in Fort Pierce. It's a departure from his Hawaiian books of poetry, but written with the same heart-felt sincerity. The illustrations are fabulous! Jimmy Buffet, a long-time Blanding fan, based his album Floridays on this book. Find out more about Don Blanding at www.don-blanding.com

  1. I purchased this book while planning my family trip to Orlando. I found it to be extremely helpful and is one of the few books available that covers Walt Disney World, Orlando and Seaworld at the same time. This book is ideal for first time visitors to the Orlando area, repeat visitors who have not been to Orlando in awhile and/or those who want to do a good bit of planning before their trip.

When my family first started planning our trip, we knew that there was no way for us to be able to see everything we wanted to in this visit. We wanted to make the most of our travel dollars and visit only places that the whole family can enjoy. This book was extremely useful in giving us information on accommodations, restaurants, parks and their must-see attractions. For each ride/attraction/show within the major theme parks, for instance, the author provides a star rating system based on the individual's age (e.g. 2-4 years, 5-10 years, and so on, including Senior Citizens) as well as information on the attraction itself. There are also "Helpful Hints" sprinkled throughout the book as well as "Travel Tips," "Hot Spots" and "Fast Facts." I found this extremely useful in helping us determine which theme parks would provide the optimum enjoyment for our family.

To give you an idea of how much this book covers, I have listed the chapters below:

    1. Preparing for your Vacation
    2. Choosing your Accommodations
    3. Admission to the Disney Theme Parks
    4. Orlando-Area Dining

    5. Introduction to the Magic Kingdom
    6. Exploring the Magic Kingdom
    7. Kid-Oriented Areas of the Magic Kingdom
    8. All About Epcot
    9. The Disney-MGM Studios
    10. Disney's Animal Kingdom
    11. Disney's Water Parks
    12. Disney Nightlife
    13. A High Seas Adventure (Disney Cruise Lines)
    14. The Universal Orlando Resort
    15. The Universal Studios Florida Theme Park
    16. Universal Escape's Islands of Adventure
    17. Universal City Walk
    18. SeaWorld and Discovery Cove
    19. Exploring Greater Orlando
    20. Planning Your Trip

In addition to this extensive list are maps, important phone numbers, an attraction selection worksheet and daily itinerary. In short, I would have to say that this book gives a lot of bang for the buck. It would recommend it to those with families who are planning to visit the Orlando area and plan to enjoy Walt Disney World as well as the other non-Disney theme parks.

  2. I recently purchased this book along with a few others for my upcoming trip to Disney. It will be our first trip there as a family ( I have a 9 and a 2 year old). I found this book to be my least favorite by far. The information is generally vague and is repetitive (eg. "avoid carrying to much stuff......don't forget to bring your camera......wear a raincoat") by the time you read this 4-5 times you kind of get the point. My favorite book to date is The Unofficial Guide to WDW 2005 and also ranking in my top picks is Fodor's WDW & Universal Orlando with Kids 2005. These books get down to the specifics, if you want to eat breakfast with Cinderella in the Castle, the Unofficial Guide has the details to give you the best chance at securing a priority seating (I was able to get priority seating for two different days).
Some people might find that this book is enough, but for me I needed more.

  3. This book is way out of date. Many things hve changed in Disney since this was written. I recommend one of the Birmbaum guides instead (especially the Kids version).

  1. As first-time cruisers, we had much to learn. This guide explains everything, answered all of my questions and provided a wonderful overview of the cruise. This book is a must if you're taking the Disney cruise!

  2. Once again, Jennifer Watson and Dave Marx have done an outstanding job with the new edition of the Passporter Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line! This volume is comprehensive, informative and easy-to-use. The authors are genuine Disneyphiles and their affection for all things Disney is evident in every page of this book. However, they are not blind to its (few) flaws and are careful to let readers know aspects of their trips did not meet their standards. This book is very carefully researched, right down to which meals and restaurants are the best, which cabins are quietest, which cabins have "secret" portholes and which on-shore excursions are best value for the money. Readers will really appreciate their insider tips on how to get the most from their Disney cruise. And the information in the book is regularly updated on the authors' website. I have been vacationing at Disney for decades and Passporter has been my vacation guide ever since they started publishing it. You're going to be spending thousands of dollars on your Disney cruise...spend a few dollars more and you'll be investing in a book that will really help you get the most out of your vacation. Passporter is outstanding and worth every cent!

  3. Don't bother buying both. This one is much more useful and easy to use. I agree with the comments above. Start your cruise early by buying this guide and really get the most for your money! I feel like it is stretching the experience and giving me a head start by familiarizing me with what to expect.

Do consider ditching your nice luggage for nylon totes/something easily compactable or at least nesting - we are bringing the ones we use to pack our camping gear in when we travel because they are thin, strong and hold a lot, plus they collapse completely and will take up much less space in our cabin.

  4. This book was an excellent resource in planning my second Disney cruise. I like to research as much as possible before taking a vacation and this guide gave me lots of information I needed. I especially used the reveiws and ratings of the shore excursions to help select which ones were best for my family. They also offer great budget and planning information and offer a behind-the-scenes look at what fun activites there are to do on the ship. I would never have thought to participate in the treasure hunt on Castaway Cay without them. The links to other websites to find more information was also a big help. Finally, they have a great website where you can get the most recent updates to whatever your edition is missing and color downloads of the ships deck plans. Overall, it's an excellent resource!

  5. BEST guide book you could ever want to have in your possession before, during and after your cruise!!!!
These guys really have done their research and we are glad they did so we could have a wonderful, relaxing and informative cruise.
    Thanks!!!!!

  1. Florida Lighthouses For Kids is a profusely illustrated introduction to the lighthouses of Florida in a form and format that is ideal for young readers. The informed and informative text details the history and lore of Florida's thirty-three lighthouses. Fascinating facts pepper the engaging presentations as children will learn how lighthouses operate and how their original roles (so vital to the safety of ships at sea) gradually evolved into today's maritime museums. Highly recommended and thoroughly fun reading!
