1 comments about Rand McNally Fabmap / Key West, Florida (Rand McNally fabMap Key West).
- Fabmap means fabric map, and that's just what it is -- an 8 by 11 inch color map on washable cloth! It's just the thing: clean your glasses, your camera lens, wipe the kid's nose; carry it around in your pocket or purse. No neurotic fits trying to fold the thing!
And it's really quite a good map: most of the island on one side, Old Town on the other. It's very attractive, easy to read, and most of the major points of interest are noted.
I have two of these -- one in my camera bag, another in a pocket. Other than the free placemat-sized maps available all over town in Key West, this is the one to have.

3 comments about Hiking the Florida Trail: 1,100 Miles, 78 Days, Two Pairs of Boots, and One Heck of an Adventure (Wild Florida).
- Having hiked 629 miles of the AT in Virginia and New England, I thought I might start hiking sections of the Florida Trail, now that I am retired in Florida. I had just read Ten Million Steps by M.J. Eberhart. The story of a ten month hike from Key West to Québec. I was hoping to read a more detailed account of the Florida Trail.
Johnny Molloy paints a wet 78 day slog through endless swamps and bogs on a poorly maintained and marked trail with little to poor resupply points along the trail. Eberhart painted a better picture. Is one a pessimist or is the other an optimist? There was little in the book that would encourage me to put my pack on and hit the trail in Florida.
- I just finished this book about the author's adventure on the Florida Trail. It seems to me that he really captured the true spirit of the trail with this book. It's not always perfect weather, and it's not easy, but that's not why we like the trial. It's the ADVENTURE! Johnny seems to have a real passion for the outdoors and the history of where he travels. This book makes me want to take advantage of the Florida Trail. If it weren't for him putting this book out there, I never would believe it was possible for me to attempt such a daunting challenge. Thanks Mr. Molloy. I look forward to more of your adventures.
- I found the book fascinating. As I close in on retirement an adventure like this one tickles my intrest.
I have several of the authors books, "A paddlers guide to the everglades" is a must have for canoe/kayak travel there..... His guide books are second to none in information that you can use, very detailed.

- I read the book. I've been to Florida. This book has great information.
- The contents of Farnham's guide is essential for anyone seriously considering relocation. The invaluable information he provides gives the positives and negatives of living in Florida. Read this practical book about day-to-day life in Florida if you're thinking of moving to paradise. Many helpful pointers which has already made my life simpler. Jam-packed with simple, crisp declarative sentences that makes reading the book both interesting and easy.
- I read this book and liked it. There is a lot of stuff about Florida that I wouldn't have thought to consider when making a decision to move there. There are many differences than other areas of the U.S. For example, most houses don't have a basement, so you better keep that in mind if you need the space. In addition to the practical move information, there is a number of chapters on recreation (Weekend trips, Key West, Parks, Beaches etc). This would probably also be useful to current residents.
- What a terrific resource. Lots of useful and practical information about relocating to Florida, all in one place. It includes lots of personal observations and enough anecdotes to keep the reading breezy and enjoyable. I will refer to this before AND after the move!
- A little outdated now, but still useful. I found it so helpful, I bought my dad a copy before he made the move. I still flip through the pages to get ideas on trips and things to do. Thanks Stan!

2 comments about The Hiking Trails of Florida's National Forests, Parks, and Preserves, Second Edition.
- I thought the big Cypress Preserve was a wasteland until I bought this book. After hiking the Florida Trail through here I realize way they call it a preserve. The trip was challenging but Molloy's book helped immensely, especially with campsites.
I'm now headed to the Apalachicola National Forest for a week long hike before summer hits. The clear trailhead directions in this book will make it easy to get started. Wish me luck. Jen Dyer- Miami, FL
- Good book with plenty of trail descriptions for the areas referred to in the title. Doesn't have any maps which is a downside, doesn't go over potential campsites very thoroughly either. All in all a good book. but you'll have to get Florida Trail maps to get a good feel for the hikes in here.

1 comments about Time Out Miami and the Florida Keys (Time Out Guides).
- Not only very informative, well-laid out and user friendly, this book nailed some classic South Florida schtick which, to those in the know, (myself included) will find quite humorous. But conservative tourists of a certain demographic might prefer the more conventional (translation: boring)guides.
By the way, the TIME OUT Paris guide is tops.

2 comments about Rand Mcnally 2007 Road Atlas Florida (Rand McNally Road Atlas).
- We are new to Florida and had little time to cover many different areas. I found the atlas to be very useful and the fun tips were entertaining as well. The spiral bound format helped to keep it from getting crumpled up like all our other atlases. I would definitely recommend this version.
- My wife and I are planning a trip to Florida in April. I have done a lot of research and I did not find this book useful at all. In fact, my wife is mad at me for buying it and wants me to return it. It is not user friendly so don't waste your money folks...learn from my mistake...

5 comments about Scenic Driving Florida, 2nd (Scenic Driving Series).
- There are so many instant books about Florida churned out by writers who have merely zipped through the state en route to their next publication date that it is a pleasure to read one by someone actually familiar with the area. Jan Godown is a veteran Tallahassee journalist who has traveled these roads many times, and the reader--whether Floridian or tourist--is the beneficiary. She knows the charms, the history, and the things that threaten these places--not just how many miles they are from the plastic worlds of Central Florida. This book is a keeper on my library shelf--when it's not traveling in the front seat of my car!
- This book offers all that you need to have a memorable vacation in Florida. There is no chance of getting lost and losing precious time as you drive through the Sunshine State. When I get my drivers license back, I will be able to use this book to the fullest
- Notes from the road by author Jan Godown: Since age 13 I have criss-crossed Florida with my family, who never saw a rural route they didn't want to explore. Today I bring my own family to the places where Rawlings and Audubon fished and hunted, and where Muir camped on his 1,000 mile trek to the sea. This guide is informed by my background as a past director of the Florida Folklore Society and Florida Historical Society. It is for shunpikers. It takes you to places where you can renew your spirit. Visit along these routes, write in your journal about a Florida worth protecting, and go forth to teach about it.

3 comments about Florida's Fabulous Insects.
- Wonderful photos and quite interesting text...and here I thought this was going to be a hokey little book.
- This book has great photography and discription of various insects, however. this is a large book so you can't take it outdoors to try to identify a certain insect. It is a very good reference book
- This is part of an entire series of books about Florida's flora and fauna. The photographs are excellent. While they are paperbacks, they are oversized and approach coffee table quality. As someone that has lived in Florida for more than 47 years, I can attest that these books do a more than adequate job of capturing the essence of Florida. This book is not all-inclusive since Florida has thousands of insects. It has a limited scope, but still does a great job of highlighting the most interesting and most photogenic insects in Florida. It is not meant to be field guide or biology text. It is more of an overview, but it does it with style. I purchase every book in the series on which I can lay hands. Highly recommended for Floridians and those that are interested in Florida. This book would also interest non-Floridians if they like to know about bugs.

2 comments about Shipwrecks of Florida: A Comprehensive Listing.
- Shipwrecks of Florida : a comprehensive listing is great reading and a fantastic reference book. Anyone interested in underwater archaeology or shipwreck recovery should read this book and keep it as part of their library. I have been involved in the field of shipwreck recovery for eleven years, and I also manage the popular web site TreasureExpeditions.com. I feel that this will help to qualify my review of this book. Let me start by saying that I have had the opportunity to meet and work with Steven Singer. Steve is a person of high integrity and knowledge, all of which are displayed in the writing of this book. He has created an invaluable reference book that not only has probably one of the largest collection of shipwreck locations, but also covers other valuable topics such as; Research, Search and salvage, Wreck identification, Artifact conservation and Rights to wrecks. I have an extensive collection of material on underwater archaeology and shipwreck recovery, yet I have found this book to be invaluable to me. This book stands out as one of the true classics in the field of shipwreck recovery and underwater archaeology. Brad "Goldfinder" Johnson
- a fine book for anyone looking into a shipwreck in florida or seeking information about shipwrecks ---will laid out and easy to use.
