1 comments about Knopf Guide: Croatia and the Dalmatian Coast (Knopf Guides).
- I took three guides on a three week trip to Croatia in 2006: Lonely Planet, Bradt's, and this one. I used the first two to learn about where to stay and eat. I used the Knopf guide to truly learn about Croatia's amazing natural and cultural offerings.
The authors cover in much greater depth the historical, cultural, natural, and archaeological sites of lovely Croatia than any other guide book. It was an invaluable resource for choosing the best places to go and what to see and visit in the country.
The book itself is a pleasure to use. It's gorgeous, well-designed, illustrated, and written. The maps were superb and the most practical and useful of any of my guide books.
The book is as useful on the ground as it is for pre-trip planning and dreaming.

1 comments about National Geographic Traveler: Piedmont & Northwest Italy, with Turin and the Alps (National Geographic Traveler).
- This bookguide focuses on Turin, Piedmont, The Aosta Valley and Liguria.
It includes one walking tour of Turin's historic center and three driving tours: The Langhe Region, Lake Maggiore and The Aosta Valley. It also includes articles on interesting facts: Cafe Life, Fiat, Contemporary Art, The Slow-Food Movement, Truffels, The Gardens of Lake Maggiore and Giuseppe Mazzini.
I didn't give it 5 starts because I think it should've featured at least one more walking tour of Turin and maps of other cities (Aosta and Genoa for example). Besides, all the hotels listed are rather expensive, so this isn't a bookguide for those who travel on a budget.
In general, it's quite good, so I highly recommend it.

2 comments about Fodor's Austria, 12th Edition (Fodor's Gold Guides).
- Wherever I go I use Fodors guides. I just got back from Europe and Fodors found unique places, great restaurants and comfortable hotels all at reasonable (for Europe) prices. Follow the orange or black stars, you can't go wrong.
- This book offers gems of information on the grand and well-known sites, as well as information about places that are off the beaten track. They give detailed information about getting around by car, which is nice for non-winter travel. I do wish they would include more information about traveling by train, such as information about scenic train trips.

2 comments about Frommer's Northern Italy's Best-Loved Driving Tours (Best Loved Driving Tours).
- This Driving Tours book is a great resource, but only used as a companion to the Frommer's Northern Italy book. Shouldn't take the two books together to get the whole scoop, but it does if you are an independent traveler. This book shows the relative relationship each small town has to another - helpful if you like to explore on your own. Other benefit is that it shows a number of "off the beaten path" small towns and attractions not referenced in the general Northern Italy book. Still prefer Frommer's to any other resource - every day of the week!
- The book seems nice enough, and I am sure it is a wonderful travel companion, but does unfortunately not cover the north east area / Dolomites area (South Tyrol) of Italy - that's where we are planning to go - so I opted to return it.

2 comments about A Literary Companion to Travel in Greece.
- Although I have bought other literary guides to Greece, this remains my favorite for its gentle humor, comprehensiveness, and generous enthusiasm. The writers range from classical to modern, and Stoneman realizes what passages you try to recall when faced with a breath-taking classical landscape. Or with a less-than-perfect road ambling gently over a precipitous mountain! This is a definite plus for the traveler's pocket.
- Hi my name is Brian Cliette; I'm a Hospitality and Tourism major at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. Firstly I would like to express my love and admiration for your Traveler's Companion books, personally I own close to Fifthteen of them. During High school and College my interest sparked by your books has allowed me to travel to many parts of the world. Never the less yours books have led me to the best sites, restaurants, night clubs and places of interest that these countries had to offer. In less than a month on July 19th, I will embark on yet another adventure abroad, to the land of Castro, great rum, cigars, the land of a beautiful people and unique culture. "Cuba" . But because funding (educational cuts in North Carolina) my school wont be able to furnish the Traveler's Cuba Companion for my fellow students. Which I feel with really enhance their travel abroad experience. So I was wondering if they're any charitable books available for educational endeavors such as this. Doing so would spark interest in your other great products. Any help that u may be able to offer would so greatly be appreciated. And if unable to furnish books or other learning tools that would aid are experience, your books are still great.
Sincerely, Brian A. Cliette

2 comments about The Rough Guide Map to Spain & Portugal (Rough Guide Country/Region Map).
- Great map for travel. Folds to 9 3/4 x 4". Is made of a very thin waterproof vinyl material. Colors are bright a vivid. Roads, highways, and points of interest are very well marked. There is an extensive city index, map key and mileage guage. Even small towns are noted on the map. Map arrives in a folder. I was very pleased with this map.
- It appears to be an excellent map, but experience has taught us that actually using it is the definitive proof....how much detail it contains. We have yet to use it. However the material is sturdy and waterproof.
