3 comments about City Smart: Dallas/Ft. Worth.
- I picked this book up as a gift for a client who was staying a week in Dallas and had never been to Texas before. He went through the book and picked places he wanted to go, and apparently had a grand time, because he still raves about his trip.
As I didn't get the book back, I had to purchase another copy and was surprised to see how many interesting places there are in the Metroplex that even I didn't know about (and I've lived here for nearly forever.) I've since recommended this book to my company for future visiting clients and trainees. Great source of information, excellent organization and primo insight on "must sees".
- Wow. I've been in Dallas/Irving area fifty years (since 6 mo. old) and when I picked up this book to take a look, I was amazed at all the places to go I didn't know about! I bought a copy and have enjoyed browsing its offerings! What a great gift for anyone new to the area. What am I talking about? I'm not new! It'll make a great gift - period! A must though for newcomers - hey, real estate people, what an idea for new home buyers coming into the area! And there's so many different great tid bits of info. Thanks to the author for all her work making the Metroplex a breeze to enjoy!
- This book is by far the worst travel book I have ever read.
If you are a serious traveler, this book is not for you. If you are someone on a Sunday outing go ahead buy it. This book doesnt give you any info on ways to reach places by public transportation. The restaurant reviews arent much help and the author spends too much time reviewing Fort Worth. Also the entertainment section is horrible. There is much more to do in Dallas than the book reflects.

5 comments about Jerry Jones and the "New Regime": Memoirs, Recollections, Times and Travels With "America's Team" and Its Most Notorious Cowboy.
- While Cowboys fans all felt that Jerry was a villain when he first took over the Cowboys we are now glad he did. This book shows his single minded drive to win games and championships. I have a lot of other material about the Cowboys for fans that wish to borrow them email me.
- JERRY JONES AND THE NEW REGIME KEEPS YOU FLIPPING PAGE AFTER PAGE. I READ IT IN ABOUT 4 HOURS. IT IS AN EXCELLENT REVIEW OF WHAT ACCTUALLY HAPPENS BEHIND AND INFRONT OF THE CAMERA. IT GOES INTO EXTREME DETAIL ON WHO AND WHAT KIND OF RUTHLESS PERSON JERRY JONES ACTUALLY IS. FROM FAMILY TO BUSINESS ALL OF JERRY'S WILD TALES. OVERALL AN EXCELLENT BOOK TO KILL TIME ON LONG FLIGHTS OR JUST SITTING IN BED. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK AND EVERY DALLAS COWBOY FAN SHOULD HAVE IT.
- I am female and like to watch football so I thought it would be an interesting read, but to my surprise, it was much more than that. It is a very candid and somewhat blunt account of life and times with the team members and their owner. The book was so intriguing to me that I actually read it in one evening. It reads like you are having a converstation with the author and he is telling you one unbelievable story after another! I was thoroughly entertained as well as educated on what REALLY goes on behind closed doors.
- This book was hard to put down once I started reading it. Mr. Cawthorn gives great insight to the world of NFL football and the "fly on the wall" play by play of the life of Jerry Jones. Unbelievably shocking and funny stories that will make you want to read it all the first time you pick it up.
- Overall a very enjoyable book, especially for the distant cowboys fan across here in the UK. Todds' love of the Cowboys is very apparent all the way through but, and maybe it's my fault for not reading the details more thoroughly, there is no direct input from Jerry Jones or any of the organisation, something that I'm sure would have made the book much more credible.

2 comments about Historic Photos of Dallas (Historic Photos.).
- This book is beautifully done --a MUST HAVE for those interested in Dallas' history. Included in it are many until-now rarely-seen photos from various collections. Definitely worth its price!
- An excellent contribution to Turner Publishing's "Historical Photos"
On the surface this could be any city. On closer look you can see not only historic sites and people in the nearly two hundred photographs, but the city already has taken on the feel that makes Dallas great.
One fun thing about the photos that include historic places as Love Field and Adolphus Hotel, are the pictures of the changing technology. Can you imagine working at the central switchboard (phone system) or protecting your health by drinking Budweiser "Its Thoroughly Aged - Not Green or Unfinished."
This is not just a hodge-podge of un-related photos. The collection was chosen and arranged by Michael V. Hazel, a native of Dallas, who taught Dallas history at SMU.
The photos are chronologically ordered in era's form the 1940's through 1969. Living there since 1957 my history overlaps however I could not find a picture of me. Yet we can all live this time with this book.

1 comments about A Texas Journey: The Centennial Photographs of Polly Smith.
- An insightful and well-researched look at a little-known participant in Texas' 1936 Centennial celebration. Anyone who has ever visited the Hall of State in Dallas' Fair Park has encountered the work of photographer Polly Smith. Her distinct photographs grace the walls in several of the regional rooms. The Dallas Historical Society holds an excellent collection of Smith's stunning work and this book is a beautiful tribute to her vision and skills. Evelyn Barker has succeeded in bringing her appreciation of Polly's work to a larger audience.
