  1. I appreciate guide books that are put together with care, appreciate writing that is fun and interesting and highly informative. "Fodor's Costa Rica 2003" is an inexpensive book and a terrific one!

It was the best book on the country besides the considerably more pricey, "Costa Rica: The Last Country The Gods Made," a welcome addition to any library collection that will capture the interest of travelers, amateur geologists, students, and conservationists .

  1. Great book for good value travel (although it provides info on all types of travel from Budget to Luxury). Accurate descriptions and recommendations on accomodations, restaurants, and activities. Used it to plan a amazing 7 day trip to numerous sights in Costa Rica. Highly recommend the book.

  1. About two years ago I started doing research about moving to Costa Rica. I began by reading every tourist guidebook on the subject. Next I read three books about living in Costa Rica and made two preliminary trips to Costa Rica. I've been residing in the country for over a year and really was helped by all of the guidebooks I read about living here including "Living Overseas". However after much trial and error I have reached the conclusion that one person can't live on a budget of $1,000 monthly and have any kind of a decent lifestyle. It is impossible for a couple to live on said amount as the author claims on the back cover of this book. With their rent they would have to survive on $100 per week. I'm a single retired person and have to spend at least $1500 monthly to get by.

  2. Hi, I am working at ILISA Spanish Language Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica and I just want to say that this book helps our students a lot by giving them helpful inside information and thus by getting to know all the ins and outs about this fantastic country. Thanks!

  3. I've read this guide while living here in Costa Rica and find it paints an unrealistic picture about how easy it is to start a business. Furthermore I recently found out the author has not lived in Costa Rica for years and is somewhat out of touch with what is going on.

  4. I strongly disagree with John Akins review. The over 40 pages of "starting a small business" gives an excellent overview of what a newcomer needs to know to get a small or medium business started. I didn't read one sentence that conveyed a "rosy picture" It does say how to start, what you should know, business ideas, and even gives photo's and stories of people who came and started a business. It was my favorite section.

  5. My wife and I have lived in Escazu, Costa Rica for years. We found this "reference" guide book to have just about all the important information newcomers need when making the move. We read this book when we first moved here and continue to recommend it to friends who are thinking about moving here. We appreciate the easy-to-read reference style of this book.
