- Holding claim to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, I was disappointed that this book did not have more Costa Rican beach shots. I did enjoy the unique perspective of covering the culture from a human standpoint, but I would have enjoyed a little more diversity.
- If you want a touristic brochure you may want to order something else. But if you want to see the "Life of Costa Rica" and enjoy the natural and human side of this unique country, you'll like it. Going through this book is like telling a great photographer to get the essence of her country and translate it for you in a way you'll enjoy and will want to see again and again. Saying that Costa Rica is just beaches and parrots is like saying that the U.S. is just hot dogs and football. If you want to see what Costa Rica means to a costarican, things you enjoyed or missed while being here, or the things you'll want to see the next time you come, this book is a great start.
- Costa Rica is a beautiful and complex country with an outlook that is unique in the Americas. It is hopeful, proud, respectful of its natural beauty - and complex and contradictory. I've traveled to Costa Rica several times and I was completely impressed with how the pictures captured Tico life. I think a more powerful testimony, however, was provided by my friend, a Costa Rican living in America for over a decade: When I showed him the book, it brought him to tears with homesickness.
Few books tell better stories or capture more with pictures.
- I've been to Costa Rica for seven times in the last five years, and of all the beautiful images unique to Costa Rica, many which are portrayed in this lovely book, why select such an ugly photo for it's cover? The colors of the flag are red white and blue I understand, but I don't want it on my coffee table because of the cover....Ug! It turns me off.

- Great book for good value travel (although it provides info on all types of travel from Budget to Luxury). Accurate descriptions and recommendations on accomodations, restaurants, and activities. Used it to plan a amazing 7 day trip to numerous sights in Costa Rica. Highly recommend the book.

- Real world experiences of the many daily activities you can anticipate when a Gringo moves to God's country!
very helpful, even entertaining.
- I am enjoying the events as they build in what sounds like a very beautiful place. I will be visiting Costa Rica soon, and am reading as much as I can about CR before I go. When I am there, I will decide if I could adapt to life there on a full time basis. I find myself thinking that living in a less populated area, as the Rice's do, would appeal to me much more than the city life. The book is very discriptive, and I can see the picture he is painting in words. I was only disappointed about one thing... The website listed in the book does not exist. I was looking forward to seeing the pictures he speaks of in the book.
- This is a great book talking about a couples experiences making the move from the states to Costa Rica. Building two homes. It talks about the upsides and the problems they encountered along the way. I found it very entertaining. Kind of brings you back home to Costa Rica. Enjoyed hearing the stories of daily life in paradise as well as the pitfalls along the way. The book gives you a real feel of this couples experience of adapting to a new country. Not a retirement book but one that is very entertaining for those infatuated with life in Costa Rica.
Pura Vida!!

- If it's a 'traditional' travel guide you're after, with bus times and hotel prices, then this book isn't for you.
But if you really want to get inside the Costa Rican mindset, then it's fantastic. I read this book before I visited the country and it really helped so many things about how the Ticos behave make sense to me.
The writing style is fun, and I love how the author has peppered the whole book with little personal stories and experiences to illustrate her points.
I'd strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to do more than just scratch the surface of the country - especially good for anyone going to spend a long holiday in Costa Rica or even move there.

- I very much enjoyed reading this book about a typical American mom who gave up everything and traveled to Costa Rica with her two kids. We get so caught up in how we live our lives, we forget that in other countries and other places life is totally different. What a brave person to leave all that is normal to travel to a foreign country and live without all the modern conveniences we take for granted. I hope Ms. Kohan has the opportunity to go back to live in Costa Rica; it certainly sounds like she loved it there.
- Great story. This woman and her children lived an adventure we can only dream about. She must be a very courageous and giving person. I hope the inhabitants of Costa Rica realize the compassion and good will she has for them. Ms Kohan and her family will enjoy a life time of memories from this experience.
