1. "Chicago Sketches" is comprised of dozens of very interesting short chapters about Chicago history. Especially welcome are the lesser known incidents in Chicago's past that are included here which are as worthy of attention as the famous ones.
   But, indeed, "sketches" is an accurate description. These stories are really too short to satisfy the curiousity they have created, and ultimately leave the reader disappointed and wanting more.
   This book could best be considered as a good springboard to inspire us to read more about Chicago history elsewhere.



2. This fun and interesting book contains a series of short essays or sketches, about many interesting Chicago people, places and things. Everything is covered here from evangelist D.L. Moody through the notorious madams Ada and Minna Everleigh, from opium dens through the Chicago Bears, and from flower children through the Iroquois Fire. Along the way, the reader is treated to a plethora of maps and interesting black-and-white pictures.
   
   Now, as you might expect from the above description, each of the many articles in the book are short, just giving the reader a quick overview of the subject. Want to learn something interesting about Chicago? Then read this book to find a great subject, and go to a book on the specific topic to learn more. Heck, just want to read a lot of fun and interesting things about Chicago? Then read this book for itself. I highly recommend this book!
