3 comments about The Pilot's Travel & Recreation Guide: Southeast and the Caribbean.
- Two problems exist with this book. First, the title misrepresents the content as no information exists in the book on Baja. Second, the information on Southwestern airports is sketchy and incomplete. The book is a dud.
- poor information, for instance only 6 airports in AZ (GCN,PHX(2x!),DVD,IWA,TUS,RYN). baja not covered at all. CO, KA, OK, TX are not really in the southwest, a current A/FD is a better buy,
- SC without Myrtle Beach? NC without Ocracoke or Hatteras? VA and MD, but no Washington DC? This book is useless! There are Area Attactions, but no indication how far they are from the airport. There is a Transporation section, but it leaves out important mass transit options. Most of what is in this book is in my A/FD (and it covers EVERY airport). My (free) AOPA Airport Directory does a better job. I'm sending my copy back for a refund.

5 comments about PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and Its Ports of Call: The Take-Along Travel Guide and Planner (Passporter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and Its Ports of Call).
- I was a bit sceptical since the author is a devoted Disney lover, but I have been quite impressed. We haven't gone on the cruise yet (we have another few months), but the book has been a wealth of information and a huge help in planning the other pieces to the cruise. Great investment if you've booked a Disney cruise!
- We recently went on the West Coast Disney Cruise in August and had a wonderful time. This was our first cruise, so we did not know much about cruising, Disney, etc. The book was well written and gave the pertinent information that was needed to make our trip successful and stress free. I highly recommend it and by reading it, it will make you excited for your trip!!
- This is the best book on the market if you're planning a Disney Cruise in the future. There's more information offered than any of the other books I've purchased for our former cruises. It offers views from more than one person, including a child's point of view. I was so impressed by the information in this book I also bought the PassPorter's Field Guide to Walt Disney World. Both of these books will go with us on our trip in the near future. The only thing I didn't like was the photos, no color, so it's hard to tell just how beautiful the ship is if you haven't seen it before.
- For family vacations which involve a certain investment ($$$) I like to know what to look for. This book does an excellent job of detailing the Disney Cruise ship and helped us plan our vacation from departure through the shore excursions and our return.
- Read cover to cover in Preparation for my very first cruise. This book has covered every detail. What to pack, what to expect from the ship and what to expect on the shore excursions even what the terminal looks like when we arrive at the port. Both shore excursions I have booked,(BEFORE BUYING THIS GUIDE) are rated very low...One even said don't bother. I'm hoping they were wrong about them. Excellent, Thourough book!

5 comments about Ship's Log : British Virgin Islands.
- I bought this book based on the reccomendation from the other reviewer. When I received it, I was immediately impressed by the cool cover. However, after opening it, I found that it was essentially a 2 inch 3-ring binder with about 100 pages in it. About 2/3 of these pages are blank, and are supposed to be used to write your thoughts while traveling. The rest have very brief travel hints and recipes. The information was very superficial (i.e. names and addresses of restaurants) and would likely be available as a freebie from any tourist office in the BVI. Oh yes, there are also about 5 pages of plastic sleeves for inserting your own photos.
This book was not worth the $30 price. Luckily I was able to return the book to Amazon and get a refund on my money, but I'm still out the $8 in shipping costs. If I could have ranked it zero stars, I would have.
- My husband and I recently honeymooned in the British Virgin Islands. We received Ship's Log as a shower gift. We used Ship's Log to record each day's activities, including meals, sunsets, fish that we saw while snorkeling, and what made each day special. There were also some great recommendations for restaurants, day sails and snorkeling spots. We have been back for a few weeks but have already enjoyed looking back on the journal we kept during our honeymoon. If you are planning a trip to the British Virgin Islands and want to be sure you capture all of the wonderful things about your trip, I highly recommend this book.
- I recently went sailing in the BVI. Each evening, watching the sunset on deck during "coctail hour" my ship mates and I would discuss the events of that day, and plan the next. The daily recording in Ship's Log such important details such as the good snorkeling spots, or notes about a particular anchorage was fun, and now valuable as I am planning another trip for the spring. This is not a typical guide book in that it also acts as journal, photo album, and cookbook. The authors point us in the right direction, and we take it from there. I found it to be creative, fun, and informative. Susie's Rum Punch is great!
- I'd have to agree with another reviewer who said it is essentially a very pretty 3 ring binder. I was disappointed when I opened the book. It is a slick journal cover but for the price tag it is a poor value. I suspect even those that like the idea and have made a trip to the BVI soon found they couldn't begin to hold their "highlight" photos in the pages.
- While it will not replace a traditional guidebook, this Ship's Log can both point you in the right direction and help you remember next time where you went. If you use this book during your trip, you will not find yourself reminiscing about that awesome snorkeling spot "somewhere between virgin gorda and George Dog" or the best rum punch ever "at some beach shanty in tortola". If you want to recommend something you saw or did, just open your ship's log, consult your notes and tell them exactly where to go. That rum punch was at the Bomba Shack, and the bartender's name was Celeste. The three couples on our boat did a lot of laughing as we filled out our ship's log during cocktail hours. Now that we are back on the mainland, every six months or so we all get together and make daquiris, pull out our Ship's Logs and laugh some more. Really a way to hold on to and remember your trip. For me, made the pleasure of the vacation last!

5 comments about The Secret Caribbean: Hideaways of the Rich & Famous (Hunter Travel Guides) (Hunter Travel Guides).
- This is more than just your run of the mill travel book--this is a guide to fantasy. Whether you want to share elbow room in the playgrounds of the rich and famous, or just dream of an escape to the crystal waters, clear blue skys and white sands of the Caribbean, this guide will help you to transform such lofty dreams into an affordable reality. With colorful insights into the history of each location, Secret Carribean transports you into the adventure of the past, while beckoning you to realize your fantasies in the here and now. Pleasantly written with a gentle to the eye lay-out, this book will appeal to many readers, not just those planning a getaway to their own secret hideaway.
- "... let this book guide you. It spotlights extraordinary island resorts where you can become the star of your own movie, set in a tropical paradise." About.com Honeymoons
- "Fabulous facts and finds. I can't wait to go on vacation!" Julie Moran, Entertainment Tonight
- "... an inspiration! I'm ready to rediscover the Caribbean!" Penelope Ann Miller
- This is the very first travel guide that I have felt was a total waste of my time and money. Use this guide only if you want the barest of details and the least amount of research. You can go to the tourist board sites and receive 10 times the information and to practically any other guide book for lots more hotel suggestions and information. The chapter on Aruba was the worst! It list only one hotel (La Cabana Resort) which is across the street from the beach and although a nice find for families - definately NOT a secret hideaway type hotel. I could have wrote this book in my first year in the travel business with my eyes closed. Did anyone even go see these resorts? It sure does not sound like it. Do yourself a favor and buy Ian Keowns Hideaways or even a Foder or Frommer guide! Or better yet, find an experienced travel agent who knows the caribbean and has actually seen the resorts and hotels!
