1. I found this book to be very helpful. It contains excellent coverage of Bonaires' dive sites. I dive in Bonaire about once or twice a year and have been using this book to plan my shore dives and read about sites before I visit them. I've just returned from a 5 day trip to Bonaire. Guess what I brought along



2. This is a very good introductory book for diving on Bonaire. It lists and describes several of the best dive sites on Bonaire and Klein Bonaire. It also provides some general tourist information for Bonaire, which many first-time Bonaire divers may find very interesting. The book is also compact and is great for traveling.



3. The book gives a good overview of some of the more popular dive sites listing type of entry, depth & current information. It also rates the dives as Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced. The photography is good as are the dive descriptions. However, the book is dated and the map of the dive sites is not numbered correctly and doesn't list the names of many of the sites on the southwest beaches. Also, two of the most popular dive sites, the Town Pier & Salt Pier now have some restrictions on them that are not listed in this book. Overall, I think it's a good general overview of the sites and attractions of Bonaire.



4. I was going to buy this book, but a new updated edition is supposed to be in the works. Per my Dive Shop, this is one of the Pisces dive guides, this one published in 1991. Apparently Lonley Planet bought the series and is updating and reissuing each book. The Bonaire book I'm told is due out in July of 2001.

   Otherwise I have found this series to be excellent.




5. This guide is quite dated, whereby most information is no longer current. I'd recommend saving your money and purchasing the Dive Guide by Jack Jackson, unless you enjoy periodicals that are a decade+ old. In its day, I'm sure it was adequate...

1. I was assigned this book for a class on Mayan Culture and Civilization, so that certainly impacted the lens through which I read this book. I was expecting a book on the Mayans, and that's not at all what this is. It's really a book about buying property and building a house in Mexico - if that's what you're looking for, great. If you want to learn about the Mayans, don't waste your time with this one.
   I still only gave this two stars because I felt the writing could have been a lot better.



2. What an enchanting adventure. This is a true story that kept my attention focused through the whole book. I wish it had been longer. It was easy to put myself in Jeanine's place and a few times I wish I had been there with her doing what she and her husband were doing.



3. I want to let others know how much I enjoyed this book.
   When I began reading, I was immediatly transported back to the Yucatan, to many of the places we had just visited; Coba, Puerto Morelos, Valledolid, Ek Balam, Chichen Itza (of course), and Merida. Jeanine's candid narrative hit home with me and my impressions of the people and the places she wrote about. To me, Yucatan is vastly different (and much more comfortable) than other parts of Mexico that I've visited - and her book paralleled and reinforced my experience while adding the depth of her experience. She colorfully described the perils and pleasures of building a house in the Yucatan - which encourages me to think more about retiring there. We must also share an appreciation of wonderful Yucatecan food, although I would have enjoyed longer descriptions. Jeanine clearly writes from the heart. A good read by an interesting lady who, with her husband, dreamed, planned, then lived the adventure. Perhaps, in a future edition, Jeanine will write a sequel. I certainly hope so.



4. Good book to get a feel for the rhythm and flow of living in Costa Mayan Mexico - encounters that you can expect with government employees, natives, other expats, etc. Nothing real deep or enlightening, but gives a good sense of what to expect. This was a quick read - it goes by fast.



5. I ordered this book prior to a trip to Puerto Morelos thinking it might be an interesting read. It WAS an interesting read, and much more! The author is an excellent writer and has created an almost suspence-like page-turner out of her very informative and entertaining book, Where the Sky is Born. The book is also inspirational as it leads the reader to understand that when you have a dream that is important enough, you will find the means to accomplish it. I devoured the book in one day and enjoyed every minute of it.
   
   Puerto Morelos was also wonderful. A special treat was meeting Ms. Kitchel while we were there. She is an extremely interesting and kind woman. Looking forward to additional books in the future!

1. Very dissappointing. The description implied you would get # of slips per marina, depth, email contact info., etc. Wrong. You only get phone numbers (unless you're interested in one of the few advertisers). If you want a phone book, this is it. If you were hoping for specific information about the various marinas, this is not your book.



2. This book is a waste of money. I was extremely disappointed in this book. Very little information. You can easily get all the information in this book off the internet. If you are too lazy to check the internet then buy Chris Doyle's Guides. With the "Cruising Guide" label I was expecting something on par with the other guides published. I can't believe this actually got published under this series.

1. I am sorry but this was worthless. All the information in this book is on the internet. This book brings no value to a traveler going to any of these locations.



2. I have found this book to be an informative helpful guide about some of the Carribean islands which little seems to be written.

   It is particularly useful for someone, like myself, who is ready to explore the Carribean beyond their own favorite island, in my case - St. John.

   I am finding it to be a great resource tool.

   A minor fault - I wish it had more colored pictures.




3. I read the review that said this book was worthless and chose to ignore it - mistake! You can definitely find all of this information, plus a whole lot more, via the few websites and message boards about Anguilla. Buy a book to read on your trip instead!



4. I was very disappointed with this guide book. I've bought a lot of guidebooks and have never seen one as general as this one. The information contained in Fodors or Frommers big Carribean books give better coverage to St. Kitts which is what I was interested in learning about.



5. Dec 2006 - Just finished 7 days on nearly all islands
   in this book. Maps and general info. ok.
   Other info out-of-date.
   Saw a 2007 travel book just released (Frommers?).
   Summary, get a more current and up-to-date guide for
   the Lesser Antilles.
   Lesser Antilles is a great place to visit. You want
   to do fancy - it is very expensive.
   Otherwise, did not find costs outrageous.
