  1. Beginning at the International Peace Gardens on the US/Canadian border in 1979, Elaine Seavey narrates seven amazing summers of exploration with her husband, Rodger. From `79 until their final Canadian trip in `98, these two mavericks cruise (and sometimes bounce!) through the beautiful Canadian countryside in their RV. Repeatedly, I was amazed at the questing natures of this retired art teacher and her husband--a retired businessman. The true spirit of adventure sparkles throughout this book, as they tackle the day-to-day challenges of the open-road, in their pursuit of the next pristine lake...the next historical location.

I groaned along with Elaine as rough roads, and their modern Airstream, confronted each other--and often the road won! Time and time again I could almost smell fish roasting on the campfire as Elaine fried their catch of the day. I marveled as I was introduced to a real British Columbian frontiersman, Panhandle Phillips, when Elaine and Rodger flew out over the Rainbow Mountains to his fish camp on Tsetzi Lake.

Canadian history and wildlife can be found on nearly every turn of the page. I truly enjoyed reading Canadian Summers, and can't wait for the next book in the series!

  1. Volume 2, Sites Within a Day's Drive of Vancouver is the most detailed field guide available for gold, gemstone and mineral hunters in this area. We found the detailed maps and generous Latitude and Longtitude references very helpful. When inputting this information into our GPS we have easily located the sites mentioned in this book. Highly recommended.

  1. Until I came across this book, I had no idea that Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, was a hot bed of classic boating. This book is beautifully photographed and well researched, and will make you want to go to the Lake some sparkling summer day and watch the swells renact the obulence, style, and speed of inland yachting a century ago.

  2. My neighbor who grew up in Lake Geneva, WI made me aware of this book. I have been going up to the Lake Geneva area since 1978 and this book does a remarkable job of showcasing all of beauty of the lake and all of the historic wooden boats that grace its waters. Most boats include a one page spread with a picture, its history and a story including its current owner. The pictures are fantastic with most by pro photographer Bruce Thompson. The book layout is very professional and the binding and paper is high end.

Lake Geneva and its boats are so gorgeous, and this book does a great job capturing them. The most unfortunate thing is that book is so difficult to obtain that everybody I recommend it to has difficulty finding it. So buy it if you can find it.
