- It has a lot of candid and very useful information to supplement what I found on the internet. It alerted me to things that I might not have considered otherwise. I especially liked the inclusion of URLs to pertinent websites for more information. The transportation system in Vancouver is excellent, but determining routes takes a little research.

- We have traveled to Florida and to Yellowstone this year. The Exit Authority was the most helpful book for traveling I have ever used. We were able to plan all our stops, get gas, find a restaurant, pick a campsite, you name it Exit Authority has it listed. I wouldn't go on any trip without it. Only one problem and it isn't with the book, I live in Pa and we still don't have the correct numbers on our exits. We had the most trouble right in our own state. Otherwise, buy it and enjoy your trip!
- We travel often during the year to NASCAR races and pull a 24ft trailer. The eXitSource is a MUST to find stores, gas stations, RV parts stores and ESPECIALLY where the to dump the bathroom and water tanks. There are many states where the dump stations are not provided so to find one ahead of time is important in the planning. We have used the Exit books for years and would not be without it.
- I had previously posted a review and provided incorrect information concerning the listing RV dump stations in the eXit Source, they are in fact listed in the Trailer Life Directory which is another must for any travelers with RV's. Trailer Life is great for looking for Camp Sites ahead of travelling.
- I have the 2000 edition of "Interstate Exit Authority" and found it very helpful during my Summer of 2000 road trip to and from California. The book is detailed yet easy to read and use- it covers every exit on every interstate and major highway. Before the road trip, the book saved me time and resources during the planning stages. During the road trip, looking up information was fast and easy. The book was a huge 600+ pages, yet easy to carry and handle, and overall very durable. I'd like to see it back on the market, with new editions every 12 months.
- Have found alot of missing businesses, book needs updating. Is there a 2005 coming?

2 comments about Last Train to Toronto: A Canadian Rail Odyssey.
- Pindell knows just when to switch from the grand sweep of history to the tiny details of train travel, and paints a picture of our nearest neighbor that is surprisingly complete. Although Pindell expresses justifiable nostagia for routes that have been axed since his journey, a great number of spectacular rides are still to be taken in Canada. Everyone who loves the "torque of travel" should consider the cross-continental trip to Vancouver or Prince Rupert, the bi-lingual route from Toronto to Halifax, or the "Polar Bear Express" to the edge of Hudson's Bay. Don't leave home without Pindell.
- This is a coast-to-coast train ride and back, interchanging between travel description and local history. This was Terry's attempt to describe the last passenger train of the Canadian-Pacific Railroad before the route became dedicated to freight hauling, although the actual last train is just the last chapter, the rest are descriptions of scenery, passengers and history of the area along the way.
The story shows how Canada was united because of the railways. Immigrants were recruited to settle the northern praries and then were promised railways to connect the town. (In US-American history it worked the other way around)
The story works. Between meeting foreign travelers (many who openly admit they don't like Americans), oil drillers, loggers and nude Canadian dancers out West (amazing, really, how many crowned dancers he met on the trains!) to crabbers and fishermen and disenchanted Quebecois out East, his style is a bit Paul Theroux and Studs Terkel.
It's a shame that most of the trains no longer run like they do in the book. The characters are varied, the dialogue interesting and the countryside in most cases breathtaking. It's almost worth jumping on a train westbound to experience again. What a shame such travel now is obsolete. It makes me wonder what happened to all the people Terry profiled, especially the nude dancershe met out west.
This book is not a chronological story of his cross-country trip, though. Almost half the book was dedicated to British Columbia in great detail. Granted, it's a region rich in history, but I almost wondered if he would ever set foot in the rest of Canada. He does. After finishing off his time in BC he starts the next chapter in Montreal and moves east from there to Nova Scotia.

1 comments about Kluane National Park Hiking Guide.
- Lots of hikes and routes through gorgeous Kluane National Park
are provided in this book. Additional background information is scattered through the route descrtiptions. Useful for planning a trip to Kluane, but once you get to the park I highly recommend getting a route guide from the Parks Canada centre and ignoring this book entirley. The book, or at least the Donjek route described in it, is often confusing and at points downright inaccurate. The book suggests that the Donjek hike can be done in 6 to 8 days. The Parks Canada route recommends 8 to 10 days. It's definitely an 8 to 10 day hike. We ended up hiking all day, every day, and it took a full 7 days. In the summer in the Yukon the daylight will allow you to hike 14 hour days no problem and that's what we did most days to complete the route. The guide says things like, "The horse camp ... will take two hours to reach from the pass". Now this is an almost 4,000 foot elevation drop over 6 kilometers of terrain as the crow flies. It's more like a 10 km hike involving cautious step-at-time steep sections and numerous creek crossings and scrambling down or across large rocks. It tooks us a solid six hours to hike. Odd inaccuracies like this continued to be sprinkled throughout the route, but the worst offense was hiking out via the "Granite Creek Cabin" route. This is a seperate stand-alone hike in the book and is described as "a pleasant walk along a road". What it fails to mention is that this is a abandoned winter access only road and in the summer it's just a hideous stretch of mosquitoe infested swamp and muskeg. Bushes on the road have overgrown in so thickly they reach 20 feet at points. There are very few views along this hike and it ends at a rotted log cabin in a marsh. The book describes it as a "meadow" where "dry tent spots are at a premium". That anyone could suggest this as a hike by itself is just ridiculous.

1 comments about Vancouver: The Ultimate Guide (6th ed).
- This travel book is very good and easy to read. It covers basically all the major attractions in Vancouver and it even gives you a list of the top ten activities not to miss. For every single attraction, you will find detailed description on how to get there (either by car or by taking the public bus), the admission fee, hours of service, and a phone number. The book includes about ten maps that are absolutely great. You will also find the information on restaurants very useful. They organize them by location, by cuisine, and by price range. This book is a great travel planner you will like to read before visiting Vancouver. And, do not forget to bring your umbrella and your rain jacket!
