5 comments about The Complete Guide to Bed & Breakfasts, Inns & Guesthouses in the United States, Canada, & Worldwide (Complet Guide to Bed & Breakfasts, Inns & Guesthouses).
- I found this guide to be wonderful and so informative. I have stayed at many wonderful inns and bed and breakfasts, thanks to her wonderful guide. I highly recommend it to everyone!
- The plethora of inns claimed are mostly name, address and phone number. I can look in the phone book for free, thank you. Of those featured, there just isn't enough information to make an informed decision. Save your money. There are better guides available.
- Friends and family have been telling me for years about this series of books and finally I got around to picking one up. With all the guidebooks on the market, what I hear from everyone is that this is the one they really use because it is so consistent and widespread.
I love it and used it last summer for a two-week trip throughout North Carolina. The trip was incredible and the book was our ONLY source for accommodations. My parents used the book to select 8 of 10 places to stay on a trip between Texas and Minnesota. All B&Bs were great. One of the innkeepers on my trip said that she wouldn't dream of being without "the guide" for use by her guests. I'm planning a trip to England next year. Guess what is the first thing I am going to pack?
- SUPERB book on bed and breakfast listings!
VERY comprehensive! http://www.lanierbb.com
- This may have been a good guide in its day. But like a lady over 50, it shows its age: published nine years ago, it is out of date--kind of like a french twist. And the listings are too brief--kind of like, well, you get the picture.

4 comments about Alaskan Aberration.
- Al is one of my very favorite people in the world. His book gave me insight into his soul. The details he uses make you feel like you're riding along in his sidecar, like Schultz from Hogan's Heroes.
- This book was a BIG dissapointment, as it tells you as much about the countryside as a one page holiday brochure! The trip done one motorbike must be one of the most rewarding trips, however if one reads the authors book, it becomes nothing more than a person trying to cover a distance to prove that he can sleep outside in a tent and drive without a helmet.
For a good read: "Jupiters Travel", "Bullet up the Grand Trunk Road", "Abgefahren" These authors manage to combine a good storyline, with a travelbook, and give you a insight into their daily lives. I regret buying the book.
- Allen Bartell has written a book about a trip that I could only dream of. The imagery and feelings that this book evoke are unforgettable. The heat of Texas, the wind and rain, and harsh conditions that one can be exposed to on a mototrcycle are all vividly illustrated on the pages of this book. Throught the pages of Alaskan Abberation I was also exposed to a variety of characters that I would never think of striking up a conversation with. Finally, this is a great book with some great writing and I would recomend it to anyone.
- when i read this book, i felt the cold breeze of the glaciers on my skin. i felt the bumps on the road and i laughed more than once. i smiled a lot and wished i was there too, on the road. the description of nature are much more than "here's a tree". the author actually knows what he is talking about. he knows the trees and the animals by their names (and i don't mean bob and mary). this book also gives you an insight into the bikers' world and breaks a few stereotypes. this is a journal that tells stories honestly, without fla fla... but you never really know what can be waiting for you ahead on the road... great book to read anywhere: in your bed, on the floor, in your car, on a roof, in the mountains... and i learned new words too!!!

2 comments about Tour of Duty in the Pacific Northwest: E.A. Porcher and H.M.S. Sparrowhawk 1865-1868.
- Edmund Augustus Porcher was the captain of a Royal Navy vessel serving an Esquimalt-based tour of duty on Vancouver Island. Porcher was also a watercolor artist who made an impressive array of sensitive and skillfully executed paintings of what he saw. A Tour Of Duty In The Pacific Northwest: E. A. Porcher and H.M.S. Sparrowhawk, 1865-1868 is an impressive and uniquely informative work drawn from the ship's record and Captain Porcher's commentaries, enhanced with his superb paintings and illustrations presenting the reader with a kind of "window in time" to understand and feel what it was like in those times and places along Canada's Pacific coasts, as well as the complex and multifaceted roles and functions of a British war vessel. A Tour Of Duty In The Pacific Northwest is a unique and highly recommended contribution that will be greatly appreciated by students of maritime, and Canadian nineteenth century history.
- Tour of Duty in the Pacific Northwest: E.A. Porcher and H.M.S. Sparrowhawk 1865-1868. My great grandfather was a warrant officer gunner on this ship during the exact period covered. E.A. Porcher was the Captain of H.M.S. Sparrowhawk and a brilliant water colour artist. I ordered vis Amazon.com as I was able to purchase a brand new copy of the book for less than half the price of a used copy in the UK! Okay, it took 27 days to arrive in UK but I was told this when ordering. Very efficient service - very well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. I certainly advise UK based customers to check this site if time is not important. Thanks. The book gives a fascinating insight into the life of British sailors 140 years ago and of the relationship between the Canadian Innuits and the authorities during the establishment of British Columbia. The watercolour paintings are a delight and study of the characters and their costumes brings the period to light.
