1. As an Aussie, I can vouch that this book is spot on. It is well written, a humerous but accurate description of Australians. You won't want to put it down. It is so good that it was used as a study text for immigrants learning English in Australia!
   The only down side is that it isn't longer.



2. one gem of a book. Compulsory reading for anyone interested in visiting Australia or living there! Don't look like a stunned mullet, read the Guide!

2. I researched Australia for over a year prior to my April 2002 visit there, and I read as many guides and books as I could find. While in Australia I purchased a local behemoth encycledia of the country, thinking that was as good as it gets.

   I found the Insight Guide at my local library after I returned, and I am convinced this is THE single book anyone with more than a passing interest in Australia should buy.

   The very heavy paper presents the beautiful color pictures in high resolution, and the articles are written in a complete yet entertaining style. Australian artwork highlights the history section. The sites of interest descriptions are entertaining and concise. I actually did not read the last section (travel tips)in depth since I had already returned from my vacation, but even without that section the book would be a great read.

   This is NOT the book to carry with you on your vacation - there are plenty of other lighter guides that have more useful trivia like hotels and restaurants. This is the book to read and enjoy before you leave home. It is an excellent overall introduction to the country.

   My daughter is beginning to study Australia in her 2nd grade class - I have ordered a copy to let her take to school.

   I highly recommend this book. At the very least, check it out of your library to look at the pictures.

1. For those who like to get out and see their surroundings, this book is ideal. Dave describes how to get to pretty much everything worth seeing on Guam. Be forewarned though, this book isn't for sissies looking for easily accessible locations. Each hike or 'trek' is rated by level of difficulty, with the most difficult be exactly that. Just because the author managed to get there, don't assume you can. The pictures are great and nicely depict each hike. Some instructions are vague, but if you do the hike, you will understand why. Guam is jungle and sometimes there just aren't any good landmarks. Included GPS coordinates are usefull for those who truly prepared. This book is a must for the outdoors type who visit Guam.

   If you are planning a trip to Guam, get this book! We lived there for three years and the guide is the bible of Boonie Stomping. Five star rating...

1. For anyone interested in the history of the Pacific Islands, this book is a must read. It is a gripping true story of a young English sailor who was captured by the Tongans in 1806 when they attacked his ship, murdered most of the crew and then burned the ship. Mariner was "adopted" by one of the Tongan chiefs and used in the local wars to fire the cannons which were taken from the ship. Today you can still dive into Mariner's Cave in Vavau in northern tonga and visit many of the places named in this book.

1. An activity guide packed with detail on everything from horseback riding and camping to fishing, cruising, hiking and more. Chapters are organized regionally and make it easy to look up local accommodations and eateries, inland and water adventures, and even small local maps for quick consultation.



2. The book is great. I love the www references, the personal touches and for me the descriptions and comments make me feel like I am already there.

1. I've had an adventure finding a portable recharger for my Verizon Chocolate phone. This one is perfect! A word of warning: this little thing gets really hot, and completely drains the life out of the battery used for power. But, it beats having a dead cellphone.
