I found this book to be quite interesting and full of nice tidbits information about how life must have been like back during the early days of Alaska history when the Klondike Gold Rush was going on and towns like Skagway and Dyea thrives. The book also gives an interesting insight into tense relationship between the newly arrived white Americans and the Alaskan natives Indians who have already been there for many centuries.
   
   The book is written in a diary-journal form as the author retraces his life and adventures during this period. The author's father is Capt. William Moore, one of the prime founders of the town of Skagway since he was the first to buy land there and built a log cabin and sawmill. The author also explored the White Pass and Chilkoot Pass as well as other parts of the Yukon Territory and southeast Alaska.
   
   If there was a downside to this book, I found the narrative to be bit more on the cut and dry side as his journal on many entries were bit short. The author's matter of fact delivery don't hold the excitement or the thrill of the events written.
   
   But since I have hiked the Chilkoot Pass trail seven times, I found this book to be highly interesting account of the region I have traveled so often. This explain my four star rating since other reader who may not have my frame of reference may score it lower.
