3. My family and I just returned from a photographic safari on the MalaMala game reserve. We purchased the book from the onsite gift store as it represented so many wonderful memories of our adventure in South Africa. Jamie Thom is a wonderful guide and truely has a wonderful gift for photographing these many amazing animals. We highly recommend this photographic work of art to all who love nature.



4. This is an excellent example of what it is like at the game reserve. My wife and I spent 10 days at Malamala, and this book brought back all of the memorable experiences we had in the bush. We spent some time with Jamie while we were there and he is a true artist with a camera, as well as an enjoyable dinner companion.

1. This is an anthology organized by eras of Caucasian impact.
   
   "1770 - 1885: The Age of Exploration" includes excerpts from such worthies as David Livingstone, Richard Burton and Mungo Park. The lively immediacy of these adventures reflects the daredevil personalities and arrogance of the times ("discovering" places well-known to the inhabitants and other non-western travelers) while fostering admiration for men who withstood life-threatening hardships for uncertain goals.
   
   "Part II 1886 - 1956: The Age of Exploitation," contains pieces by Isak Dineson and Joseph Conrad as well as traditional African folktales and chronicles of hunting from Theodore Roosevelt and J.H. Patterson ("The Death of the First Man Eater").
   
   Part III 1957 - 1992: The Age of Environmentalism" includes selections from Barry Lopez and Peter Matthiessen. Contrast the gruesome "A Baby Gorilla Captured Alive," 1861, with George B. Schaller's "In the Realm of the Mountain Gorilla," 1959 for a dramatic glimpse of changing attitudes over less than a century.
   
   As with any anthology of such scope the reader will argue with selections and notice what's left out -- Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall to name just two. But Murray's choices are literate and stirringly evocative of the white man's impact on another people's continent.

1. I have not been to Morrocco yet, but I feel like I have been with this book. It shows the wonders and mystique of this beautiful land...



2. While, yes, this book does present "the multiple colors of Morrocco", it does not include much architectural photography at all. Colorful cloths, scenic dunes, markets, individual objects, plates of food, landscapes, people in alleyways, in fact just about everything *but* architecture are shown.
   
   The photographs are vivid and striking, but given that the "sample" pages (Online Reader pages) viewed are almost ALL buildings and yet buildings are minimally presented in the book, I believe that Amazon has misportrayed the contents. I was disappointed.
